SUMMARY:Walking Tour of Historic Coronado
DESCRIPTION:One of the best ways to experience the history of Coronado is to go on a historic walking tour. This is the secret that Coronado locals know: it takes time to sense the past. When you slow down\, you have a chance to see\, hear\, and remember this place that Hollywood stars\, princes\, and presidents have enjoyed. Everywhere you look in this charming beach town\, you find history. And\, that history is easiest to see on foot – when you have a chance to linger in front of a tiny\, shingled house\, perhaps\, and meet the resident as he comes out into the yard to water his roses and tells you about the multiple generations who have lived in the home. Or\, when you seemingly stumble upon the magical house from which the Wizard of Oz was born. \nWe’re proud to host you on Coronado’s premier walking tour. Every tour purchase supports the Coronado Historical Association and its mission. Thank you for your support. \nEvery Sunday at 11 am & Thursday at 1 pm\nLocation: Coronado Historical Association\,\n1100 Orange Ave\, Coronado\, CA 92118\nAdmission: Adults $20 | Children (12 & under) $5\nBUY TICKETS HERE\nTours are approximately 90 minutes and two miles at a comfortable pace. They are appropriate for young and old alike. Only certified service animals are allowed. This is an outdoor tour. Masks are optional for fully vaccinated persons with the booster shot\, and required for those who are not. \nOnline tour sales close at 10 am the day of the tour and are nonrefundable. SUMMARY:"The Knot" Dedication
DESCRIPTION:A ceremony is set for 4 pm on Wednesday\, Oct. 19\, to dedicate a sculpture — “The Knot” — recently installed at Promenade Park overlooking Glorietta Bay between City Hall and the Community Center. The community is invited to join the family of the artist and other arts enthusiasts for this free event. Light refreshments will be served after the program. \nA plaque commemorating the piece will be unveiled at the site. The City Council accepted the gift\, which was donated by The Wood Family Trust\, in late 2021 based on a recommendation by the Cultural Arts Commission. The Knot was designed and built by the late artist Jim Wood\, a former Coronado resident and lieutenant commander in the Navy’s Civil Engineer Corps. \nThe location was selected because Wood was stationed at nearby Naval Amphibious Base Coronado\, where he realized his passion for welding pieces of steel and bronze. The Promenade Park location also is a popular site for couples who tie the knot in the nearby grassy area. The City hopes the sculpture becomes a symbolic backdrop for wedding photos. \n“The Knot” is the newest addition to the more than 75 public art pieces in the City’s collection placed throughout Coronado. For more information\, download the Coronado Public Art App on your smartphone or visit CoronadoARTS.com. \nRELATED: \nArt as Infinity (video)
