SUMMARY:Spice it Up\, Coronado! Featuring Guest Speaker Anita Arambula
DESCRIPTION:Discover a new favorite spice with the Coronado Public Library! Each month\, the library has been inviting community members to explore different spices used in dishes around the world. Registrants will pick up the monthly spice selection at the library\, cook with it\, and join other food enthusiasts to talk about what they made and their thoughts about the spice. The meeting will be held\, on Zoom\, on Friday\, April 22 at 2 pm. Once registered\, participants will receive instructions on how to pick up a spice packet for the Spice It Up\, Coronado program. The Zoom link will be emailed the day before we meet. Only one registrant per household\, please. Please register at cplevents.org. \nThis month we will have a special guest speaker\, features designer and art director at San Diego Union Tribune and food blogger\, Anita Arambula. We will be trying two of her favorite ingredients\, Mexican oregano and dried chilies. \nAnita is a 33-year veteran journalist at the San Diego Union-Tribune where she currently spends her days as a senior designer and art director for the Food and Home + Garden sections. She has been a photographer\, workshop leader\, food stylist\, darkroom technician\, freelance writer and has made and sold jewelry at various points along her career. The two constants in her life since she was a child\, however\, have been her two biggest passions: food and photography. In 2007\, Anita started her food blog\, Confessions of a Foodie\, as a way to share with family and friends some of her family’s recipes and eventually\, her own creations as well as interpretations of popular dishes. Check out her blog Confessions of a Foodie. \nSee photographs and recipes from past Spice It Up\, Coronado! HERE\, then click on Open Access \nPrograms are made possible by the Friends of the Coronado Public Library. \n\nDisclaimer(s)\nFood Allergies\nWe cannot guarantee that food served at this program has not come into contact with tree nuts\, soy\, or other allergens.

SUMMARY:Friends of the Library Membership Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The Friends of the Coronado Public Library will host an annual Membership Meeting at the Coronado Public Library Winn Room on Friday April 22 from 5:30 until 7 pm. This is an important meeting for the Friends of the Library as a vote will be held among the membership in attendance to approve the slate of officers for the Friends’ Board. Proposed Bylaws changes also need to be approved\, making changes to membership levels and life memberships. Approximately one-half hour of business should be part of the membership meeting business. \nCollectible books will be for sale after the meeting\, and a raffle will also be held. The Membership meeting precedes the Saturday Book Sale which will be held for one day only on April 23\, from 9 am until 4 pm. The Book Sale location will be held on the grounds outside the Winn Room adjacent to the Coronado Library. The usual types of items will be for sale: books of all types including non-fiction and text-books\, children’s books\, art books\, best-sellers and mysteries\, collectible books\, audio-books\, DVDs\, and various gift items. \nThe change to a one-day sale is being caused by several reasons. Donations of books have not been accepted recently due to Covid\, so the inventory is lower. At the same time the increasing costs of renting tents\, tables\, and other equipment associated with conducting the multi-day book-sale has reduced the income that is raised to help support the Coronado Library. Thus\, setting up at Spreckels Park with the usual rented equipment for three days was not deemed the best way to achieve the Friends’ fundraising goals. \nThe Friends of the Coronado Public Library was formed in 1970 as a non-profit 501(c)3 organization to support the Coronado Library and its various activities. This includes a host of public programs\, children’s and teen activities\, concerts\, art\, and certain collections. \n  \n  \n  \n
