SUMMARY:Coronado Community READ Event: Art with Joel Anderson
DESCRIPTION:Join Joel Anderson for an afternoon of painting! Follow along with Joel as you paint a giraffe as part of the Coronado Community Read. This program is geared towards elementary school students\, but all are welcome. \n“A 31-year-old artist\, author\, international speaker\, ambassador\, and philanthropist from Fallbrook\, California\, Joel Anderson creates in acrylic\, mixed media\, digital media\, animation\, glass\, and video production. ‘My passion is for my art to make you smile. I enjoy using bright colors. When I hear music\, I see color in the notes and sometimes that will show up in my art. When I paint portraits\, I paint upside down so I do not get distracted by the emotions of the eyes of my subject. This way I can paint the shapes and shadows. In the end I will flip it over to finish the eyes and hope to capture the soul. I draw for the children at school assemblies. It makes me happy when students say my art has inspired them to be an artist. I hope to continue travel for inspiration and to share my art around the globe.'” \nJoel Anderson has been to Peru\, China\, Japan\, Canada\, and across the USA where he has spoken on autism\, inclusion\, and friendship. Anderson’s art has been featured in The California Museum in Sacramento\, The National Art Center of Tokyo in Tokyo\, Japan\, The H.H. Dorjie Chang Buddha II Cultural & Art Museum in Covina\, The Soho Gallery for Digital Art in NYC\, and more. \nRegistration is required\, visit cplevents.org to register. This program is sponsored by the “Jim and Bette Sherman Fund”.

SUMMARY:Friends of the Library Membership Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The Friends of the Coronado Public Library will host an annual Membership Meeting at the Coronado Public Library Winn Room on Friday April 22 from 5:30 until 7 pm. This is an important meeting for the Friends of the Library as a vote will be held among the membership in attendance to approve the slate of officers for the Friends’ Board. Proposed Bylaws changes also need to be approved\, making changes to membership levels and life memberships. Approximately one-half hour of business should be part of the membership meeting business. \nCollectible books will be for sale after the meeting\, and a raffle will also be held. The Membership meeting precedes the Saturday Book Sale which will be held for one day only on April 23\, from 9 am until 4 pm. The Book Sale location will be held on the grounds outside the Winn Room adjacent to the Coronado Library. The usual types of items will be for sale: books of all types including non-fiction and text-books\, children’s books\, art books\, best-sellers and mysteries\, collectible books\, audio-books\, DVDs\, and various gift items. \nThe change to a one-day sale is being caused by several reasons. Donations of books have not been accepted recently due to Covid\, so the inventory is lower. At the same time the increasing costs of renting tents\, tables\, and other equipment associated with conducting the multi-day book-sale has reduced the income that is raised to help support the Coronado Library. Thus\, setting up at Spreckels Park with the usual rented equipment for three days was not deemed the best way to achieve the Friends’ fundraising goals. \nThe Friends of the Coronado Public Library was formed in 1970 as a non-profit 501(c)3 organization to support the Coronado Library and its various activities. This includes a host of public programs\, children’s and teen activities\, concerts\, art\, and certain collections. \n  \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Friends of the Library Book Sale
DESCRIPTION:The Friends of the Coronado Public Library will once again be holding a Book Sale at the same time as the annual Flower Show. There will be changes\, however\, as the Book Sale will be held for one day only on April 23\, from 9 am until 4 pm. At the same time\, the increasing costs of renting tents\, tables\, and other equipment associated with conducting the multi-day book-sale has reduced the income that is raised to help support the Coronado Library. Thus\, setting up at Spreckels Park with the usual rented equipment for three days was not deemed the best way to achieve our fundraising goals. The one-day sale should still provide some revenue while sharing previously stored books to community and area readers. \nThe Friends of the Coronado Public Library was formed in 1970 as a non-profit 501(c)3 organization to support the Coronado Library and its various activities. This includes a host of public programs\, children’s and teen activities\, concerts\, art\, and certain collections. \nBy buying books at the Book Sale\, or at the Second Hand Bookshop at the library\, you help support the Coronado Library\, as well as enjoying a good or instructive read. \n  \n \n
