SUMMARY:A Century of Service: 100 years of the Rotary Club of Coronado
DESCRIPTION:On view through June 14\nCelebrate a century of community impact. Since 1926\, Coronado Rotarians have lived by the motto “Service Above Self\,” shaping the spirit of Coronado island and improving lives across the globe. \nThis landmark Centennial exhibit offers an exclusive look into the Rotary Club’s storied history\, featuring never-before-seen photographs\, artifacts\, and personal stories. The exhibit highlights the decades-long partnership between Rotary and the Coronado Historical Association (CHA)\, a collaboration that was formalized in 2024 when CHA was designated as the official repository for the club’s historical records. By moving these treasures from private garages into CHA’s professional archives\, 100 years of “Service Above Self” is protected and accessible for generations to come. \nThe archives and artifacts in the exhibit show how a century of dedication has nurtured the civic and cultural fabric of Coronado\, from local youth programs to international humanitarian efforts. See why the Rotary Club remains a cornerstone of our community.

SUMMARY:The Green of West Plaza: 90+ Years of the Coronado Lawn Bowling Club
DESCRIPTION:On view through September 13 \nThe Green of West Plaza: 90+ Years of The Coronado Lawn Bowling Club celebrates over 90 years of the Coronado Lawn Bowling Club (CLBC) with an emphasis on its history\, community involvement\, and contribution to the sport of lawn bowling. The bilingual English/Spanish exhibit features trophies and medals won by members of the CLBC\, highlighting the skill and sportsmanship that women and men have excelled at both on a national and international level. \nTo complement the successes of the club\, the exhibit explains the game of lawn bowls along with the equipment used. Very little equipment is necessary to play bowls\, making it an accessible sport for all demographics. Lawn bowling is one of the few sports that allows women and men to compete together on an equal platform regardless of age. \n

SUMMARY:Hospital Auxiliary's Summer Fair fundraiser
DESCRIPTION:The Sharp Coronado Hospital Auxiliary is hosting its Summer Fair on Friday\, June 5 from 9 am to 2 pm at the hospital’s Sandermann Auditorium at 265 Soledad Place. \nAt last fall’s Holiday Fair\, Auxiliary volunteer Mari Gilbert introduced her fun vintage items of family heirlooms and collectibles for sale. Gilbert assured the fundraising planners\, “If it’s old\, somebody wants it!” \nSharp Coronado Hospital Auxiliary invites the public to a summer gift fair on June 5 from 9am -2pm on Soledad Place (behind the hospital)\, raising funds for the hospital’s projects. Mari Gilbert\, pictured\, will be selling her vintage treasures. Residents are encouraged to donate their no longer needed collectibles to raise additional monies. Proceeds benefit Sharp Coronado Hospital’s Primary Stroke Center and the Katy Green & Cathy McJannet Nursing Scholarship Program. Come shop\, stay for lunch\, and support a great local cause.\nPurchasing “vintage” is a current trend to recycle items instead of discarding them to landfills — and to relive a time past. Clothing\, handbags\, china\, toys and games\, all play a part. At Gilbert’s booth\, look for fashion from the ’80s to today\, including denim\, leather jackets\, designer items\, rock and roll t-shirts\, and jewelry for both men and women. If you are looking for a Father’s Day gift\, consider a military or nautical collectible\, print\, or antique. What are some of the more unusual things that will be available? Check out Hotel del Coronado memorabilia from the 1930s when Gilbert’s grandmother actually lived there. \nAdditional artists and vendors will be selling their wares\, including many unique handmade items. A portion of their sales will be donated to the Auxiliary\, the nonprofit organization that supports the hospital’s programs and projects. \nHome decor\, handmade newborn outfits\, charcuterie boards\, bottle carriers\, housewares\, cloth carry bags\, hand-crafted greeting cards\, jewelry\, homemade jams\, and hostess gifts will be for sale. \nSpecialty Accessories\, a favorite vendor\, will have a large selection of clothing for sale. Pouch Leather Bags is returning with many sizes and colors. Once again\, Pampered Chef will be displaying their wide range of cooking tools. \nThe Auxiliary’s Quilt and Afghan Committee will be selling lap quilts and other handmade textile creations. Approximately 80 items are made each year and then donated to clients at the Villa or in hospice care. The Holiday and Summer Fairs are the only time they are available for sale. 100% of their sale price is donated to the Auxiliary. \nAfter you shop\, enjoy food from the Nono Jose Argentina food truck vendor; word is that the empanadas are wonderful! \nMost of the funds raised at this event will be directed to the Auxiliary’s pledge in support of the Primary Stroke Center\, offering expert stroke care to our community.  Additionally\, the Auxiliary has begun supporting the Katy Green and Cathy McJannet Nursing Scholarship program. Through this program\, current Sharp Coronado Hospital employees can apply for funding to advance their nursing careers.
