SUMMARY:POSTPONED: Grand Caribe Shoreline Park Erosion Improvements Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Updated 03/12/2025: The Port of San Diego is postponing the Grand Caribe Shoreline Park erosion improvements project workshop originally scheduled for Thursday\, March 13\, 2025\, at the Coronado Cays Yacht Club from 5 until 6:30 p.m. The decision comes out of an abundance of caution due to worsening weather forecasts that indicate heavy rainfall may result in localized flooding\, which could impact access to the venue.   \nThe Port is working to reschedule the meeting and will announce a new date and time as soon as possible.   \nThe Port of San Diego is hosting a workshop on Thursday\, March 13\, to seek input on Grand Caribe Shoreline Park and erosion improvements. The Port is evaluating nature-based coastal resilience strategies to stabilize the eastern shoreline of the park\, maintain public access and preserve existing habitat. \nLEARN MORE HERE \nGrand Caribe Shoreline Park and Coronado Cays. SUMMARY:Author Talk: Taylor Kiland\, "Murder of the Jujube Candy Heiress"
DESCRIPTION:One candy heiress\, two bullets\, and three suspects. \nCoronado rarely makes news for violent crime. But in the spring of 1975\, World War II widow and retired librarian Ruth Quinn was murdered\, execution-style\, in her cottage. Her death sent a shock wave through the community. The granddaughter of Jujubes and Jujyfruits creator Henry Heide\, Ruth was found fully clothed with her shoes on\, in her bed\, dead from two gunshot wounds. To this day\, her murder has never been solved\, but whispers about her brother\, her son\, and even a local petty thief still swirl. \nThe Coronado Historical Association\, in partnership with the Coronado Public Library\, is proud to host Coronado author Taylor Baldwin Kiland as she sifts through the dirt for the facts about Ruth’s life and her untimely end fifty years ago. This event will take place in the Winn Room at the Coronado Public Library on March 13\, 2025 from 5:30 – 7:00 pm. \nLight refreshments will be served and a book-signing will follow. This event is free and open to the public. Seating is available on a first-come\, first-served basis and is subject to availability. Preferred Seating is full. Ticket purchase/book pre-order is not required to attend the event. Pre-ordered books will be available for pickup at the event. Limited books will be available for purchase before and after the event. \n\nTaylor Baldwin Kiland\, a former naval officer\, is the third generation in her family to serve in the Navy and live in Coronado\, California. She is the author\, coauthor or ghostwriter of more than twenty books\, mostly in the military nonfiction genre and\, specifically\, about Vietnam prisoners-of-war and their families. She has occasionally written some children’s books\, including one picture book about Coronado: Oz\, Dog of the Del. Taylor lives in Old Town Alexandria\, Virginia\, with her husband and daughter\, but she visits the island about once a month to check on her dad. Murder of the Jujube Candy Heiress: A Coronado Cold Case is her first cold case murder mystery.
