DESCRIPTION:Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection is held the second and fourth Saturday of each month\, from 9 am to 2 pm at the Public Services Facility\, located at 101 B Avenue\, and is available to Coronado residents only. No business or contractor-generated waste is permitted. \nHousehold products containing toxic chemicals become hazardous waste when you decide to dispose of them. Never throw hazardous products in the trash\, as the toxic chemicals may harm the environment and sanitation workers\, and start fires in trash trucks. Never pour hazardous products into a sink or storm drain. It is dangerous and they will end up in our environment polluting the air\, water and soil. The City of Coronado’s HHW program is available so that all residents in the community can safely dispose of their toxic\, hazardous waste. \nMore details HERE.

DESCRIPTION:Coronado Public Library\, in partnership with Warwick’s Bookstore\, will host Javier Zamora as he discusses and signs his new book\, Solito: A Memoir.\n\nThis event is free and first-come\, first-served. One reserved seat per book. \nZamora was born in El Salvador in 1990. His father fled the country when he was a year old\, and his mother when he was about to turn five. Both parents’ migrations were caused by the U.S.-funded Salvadoran Civil War. When he was nine Javier migrated through Guatemala\, Mexico\, and the Sonoran Desert. His debut poetry collection\, Unaccompanied\, explores the impact of the war and immigration on his family. Zamora has been a Stegner Fellow at Stanford and a Radcliffe Fellow at Harvard and holds fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation. \nAbout the Book: \nTrip. My parents started using that word about a year ago: “one day\, you’ll take a trip to be with us. Like an adventure.” \nZamora’s adventure is a 3\,000-mile journey from his small town in El Salvador\, through Guatemala and Mexico\, and across the U.S. border. He will leave behind his beloved aunt and grandparents to reunite with a mother who left four years ago and a father he barely remembers. Traveling alone amid a group of strangers and a “coyote” hired to lead them to safety\, Zamora expects his trip to last two short weeks. \nAt nine years old\, all Zamora can imagine is rushing into his parents’ arms\, snuggling in bed between them\, and living under the same roof again. Under a scorching sun for days on end\, armed with nothing but hope\, humor and ambition\, contestants fight to keep at least one hand on a brand-new truck in order to win it. Inspired by the true events of the acclaimed 1997 documentary which was adapted into a musical commissioned by La Jolla Playhouse. \nCommunity Spotlight Partner\nCoronado Playhouse is committed to giving back to the local community beyond quality entertainment and using its public platform to help those in need. During the run\, the Playhouse’s community spotlight partner is the San Diego chapter of Survivors of Suicide Loss (SOSL). SOSL reaches out to and supports people who have lost a loved one to suicide.
