SUMMARY:Autumn Concert Series featuring Fred Benedetti
DESCRIPTION:Join the Library for our Autumn Concert Series on Fridays from September 2 to October 28. Each concert will begin at 1 pm in the Winn Room. Doors will open 15 minutes prior to the performance. At this week’s performance\, guitarist Fred Benedetti will perform Spanish classical and flamenco pieces\, along with original and popular music\, tunes played on an instrument built in 1830\, and some ukulele music.\n\n\nBenedetti has been playing the guitar since he was nine years old. He loves playing all styles of music and switches among a ukulele\, baritone guitar\, and double-neck guitar. His biggest influences are his father\, The Beatles\, and Andres Segovia. Benedetti’s guitar has taken him throughout the United States\, England\, Germany\, the Czech Republic\, Canada\, Taiwan and Mexico. He has played locally as a solo act\, as part of a guitar duo\, and in a trio with his daughters. Benedetti has appeared onstage with the San Diego Symphony\, San Diego Opera\, Starlight Opera\, American Ballet Company\, Luciano Pavarotti\, and Dave Brubeck. He is an emeritus professor of music at Grossmont College where he is the head of the guitar studies program. Dignitaries he has performed for include the King and Queen of Malaysia\, Mikhail Gorbachev\, and Ravi Shankar. And he did get to play for his idol Andres Segovia\, in 1986. \n

DESCRIPTION:Discover a new favorite spice or herb with the Coronado Public Library! Each month\, the library invites community members to explore different spices used in dishes around the world. Registrants will pick up the monthly spice/herb selection at the library\, cook with it\, and join other food enthusiasts to talk about what they made and their thoughts about the spice. The meeting will be held on Zoom on Friday\, September 23 at 2 pm. Once registered\, participants will receive instructions on how to pick up a spice packet for the Spice It Up\, Coronado program. The Zoom link will be emailed the day before we meet. Only one registrant per household\, please. Please register at cplevents.org.\n\nThis month we will have a special guest speaker\, local cookbook author Stephanie Weaver. \nWeaver will take us on a tour of her favorite spice — smoked paprika — and share five recipes from her books The Migraine Relief Plan and The Migraine Relief Plan Cookbook. She’ll explain what goes into developing and testing a recipe that’s cookbook-worthy. She’ll also take us behind the scenes of the cookbook production process\, including food photography and design. \nWeaver is also a speaking coach based in Oceanside. She has a Master’s in Public Health in Nutrition Education and writes the popular food blog\, MigraineReliefRecipes.com. Under a scorching sun for days on end\, armed with nothing but hope\, humor and ambition\, contestants fight to keep at least one hand on a brand-new truck in order to win it. In the hilarious\, hard-fought contest\, only one winner can drive away with the American Dream. Inspired by the true events of the acclaimed 1997 documentary which was adapted into a musical commissioned by La Jolla Playhouse. \nCommunity Spotlight Partner\nCoronado Playhouse is committed to giving back to the local community beyond quality entertainment and using its public platform to help those in need. During the run\, the Playhouse’s community spotlight partner is the San Diego chapter of Survivors of Suicide Loss (SOSL). SOSL reaches out to and supports people who have lost a loved one to suicide.
