Beer by the Bay Festival / Fundraiser is October 10th at Ferry Landing

Coronado, CA- September 30, 2015-
-The Islander Ladies Club is proud to host Coronado’s first annual beer festival at the Coronado Ferry Landing on Saturday, October 10th from 12-5pm. The event will feature unlimited beer tastings from more than 10 local craft brewers, live music from island bands, tasty fare available for purchase, and plenty of fun. Best of all, a portion of the proceeds will benefit the Coronado Schools Foundation and United Through Reading.

“We are incredibly excited that Beer by the Bay will help fund such amazing organizations,” said Rita Alipour, co-founder of the Islander Ladies Club. “Coronado Schools Foundation works so hard to maintain the excellent standards in the Coronado Unified School District, and United Through Reading helps U.S. military families connect through the bonding experience of reading together, even though their loved ones are far away.”

Beer by the Bay will feature some of the finest craft beers from award-winning local breweries like Coronado Brewing Company, Ballast Point, Bay Bridge Brewing, MonkeyPaw, Belching Beaver, Absolution, Thorn Street Brewery, Iron Fist, Pizza Port and more. Delicious local fare will be available for purchase from Coronado favorites such as Blue Bridge Hospitality, Spiros Gyros, Candelas, and Coronado Cupcakery. There is even a “Winer’s Corner” for the wine drinkers, featuring a selection of wines provided by Tartine.

Local bands Velvet Café and DNR will perform at the event, as well as a live DJ. A photo booth will be available to capture all the revelers, and local vendors will be raffling of everything from a stand up paddle board from Isle Surf and SUP to Sunday brunch at the Hotel Del and a sunset cruise aboard a yacht.

The Beer by the Bay event marks almost one year since the founders of the Islander Ladies Club rallied around Oscar De Las Salas and Gary Jackson, the Arizona couple whose wedding at the Coronado bayfront was marred by homophobic jeers and hateful comments. The ladies worked together with members and businesses in the community to stage a wedding “redo” at the Loews Coronado. At the end of it all, the wedding was beautiful, Coronado was “redeemed” in the press, and the grooms were happy. Soon after, the Islander Ladies Club was formed to preserve the incredible and unprecedented camaraderie, generosity and kindness established, and to raise money for community needs as they arise in the future.

“The wedding was significant because people of all backgrounds rallied to right a wrong, despite differences that would typically divide people,” said Alisa Kerr, co-founder of Islander Ladies Club. “That character of Coronado should be remembered, celebrated and encouraged, so we committed to hosting an annual event to commemorate that camaraderie and the power of our unity. So please join your friends and neighbors and let’s all raise a frosty brew to this beautiful island we call home.”

Beer by the Bay is easy to get to by ferry, water taxi, or a short cab ride from the “mainland” over the iconic Bay Bridge. With admission, guests will receive unlimited tastes of favorite brews, an official Beer by the Bay souvenir cup, swag bags for the first 100, a super-relaxed vibe with bay breezes and signature downtown view, and of course the chance to benefit some fantastic local organizations. The Islander Ladies Club is very grateful for the support of the local businesses who have sponsored the event, providing everything from beer and food to entertainment and donations to the raffle.

Information and tickets are available at www.beerbythebay.com. Tickets are $50 until the day of the event, then $75 at the door.
